Deadlines, Participation, Talks, Materials

We met today for the first time without half the enrolled people present. In the future if
there are fewer than 9 people present by 8:30 AM I will cancel the class.
If you are receiving this message once, you have completed the Project Description submission.
Three people haven't done that (address line). They should a) consider "drop"; and, as a way
to underline the importance of deadlines, b) be receiving two copies of this message.
It is the beginning of the fifth week. I must have interim project reports from every group. In
order to handle the interviewing and other pressures, you need some flexibility, but those
reports are technically in place of a midterm, so they are due now and next week. If they
are handed in during the seventh week you will lose some time/ability to improve your project.
Participation in the class is the only way to learn what this course covers. If you do not
attend, you will either not pass or obtain a low grade. Furthermore, persistent lack of attendance
makes it certain that no positive reference (grad-school/jobs) will be forthcoming.
There are only 10 more class meetings [holiday on 5/26, >]. Final project reports are due at
the last class 6/4, #. Demonstrations of your work take place 6/9,*, 3-6 PM: everyone should be
present. Calendars follow.

Your talks are required to pass the class. Forty more talks must be given in the remaining
10 meetings, since there are 18 enrolled, and 3 per person is the stated minimum. To talk
you need to be working (on things shown, said). You cannot pass the class solely by handing in a
report at the end.
All class materials handed out today are in the doorslot of 3532-F with the blank film
transparencies and pens.
