Oracle [AC97] is the most commonly used database server in industry. It provides a comprehensive environment to support database applications. Along with good performance, Oracle also provides a tightly integrated procedural extension of SQL, PL/SQL. In view to these features, Oracle was chosen as the database for SQL-AG, and PL/SQL was chosen as the implementation environment for SQL-AG. The following sections give a descriptive overview of PL/SQL.
