ACM

When I moved from UT Austin to UCLA, I helped female students to form a local chapter of ACM-W, which was officially chartered in December 2014. I organize a bi-monthly informal meeting time with female students to support and advocate for the full engagement of women in all aspects of the computing. I also helped to organize the funding and logistics for UCLA CS students to attend the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing.

Together with ACM-W, we created an ACM-W Distinguished Speaker Series at UCLA. The goal of this program is to inspire women and under-represented group students by providing an opportunity to network with prominent leaders in academia, industry, and other leadership positions.

Faculty in Residence

I would like to make an impact to students? lives beyond a classroom setting, because I lived in a dorm during my college years at KAIST and benefited from both formal and informal interaction with professors. Therefore, I decided to become a Faculty in Residence at UCLA and my family now lives in a university dorm building. Yes, it is a *big* change! I help create seminars and events within Office of Residential Life to help students' intellectual, social, and personal development. I organize Dinner for 6 with my building residents and invite international and out-of-state students to Thanksgiving Dinner at my home.

I received Doc Stevensen Award in 2018 and Faculty/Staff of the Year Award in 2017.

Outreach

I created Mommy Computer Science Camp, which is designed to teach the basic concepts of Computer Science to 4 to 6 year old children using hands-on activities without using computers, featured in PC Magazine.

Mentoring

I served as a Chair of Diversity Committee within UCLA CS. Previously at UT Austin, within the Cockrell School of Engineering, I served in the Women in Engineering Committee. As a female faculty member in a male dominant computing field, I naturally serve a mentor role for female students. I spoke at "CRA Early Career Workshop" and "ICSE New Faculty and Researcher Symposium" to encourage junior faculty in computing.
